So, it's been quite a while since I updated the site. For a while I was scooping up every little thing I could find that was in any way related to Monroe, F&S, Stanleys, etc. but I'm more discriminating now. I've accumulated lots of photos and posters, most of which are presented on this site, that mostly sit on the shelf in photo albums or tucked away in the back room. I really don't need more, so I'm not rummaging through eBay as much as I used to. Things still occasionally catch my attention, so I haven't given up yet.
At this point I'm mostly interested in completing my collection of F&S song books and my collection of Bluegrass Unlimited. That reminds me, I was thinking of creating a new section on the site called "The Covers of B.U.". As the name implies, I would show the cover page of each issue (at least the older ones). It would take a lot of scanning, and I'm still not sure it would be worth the effort. If you have an opinion on the idea, please let me know.
There are times when I wonder if I should keep the site up at all. It doesn't cost a tremendous amount of money (about $130/year), but still. Usually when I start having thoughts of pulling the plug, I get a nice email from someone who just happened to stumble in, and then I'm encouraged to keep it going. I know it's a minority within an already small community that cares about looking at old pictures of old bluegrassers, but it's nice to think that in some very small way, sites like this help keep interest in the older music alive.
My favorite part of the site (and the part that probably gets most traffic) is the songbooks section. At some point I may decide to shut down some of it, but keep the songbooks going (unfortunately, the way I originally chose to code the site makes adding new pictures a hassle).
Whether you stumbled onto this site by chance, or if you occasionally check in to see what's new, please let me know what strikes your interest.
In case you're looking to clean out your attic, these are some things that I'm interested in adding to my collection:
Flatt & Scruggs song books:
1950 Edition of Radio Favorites (I have the Beacon Banjo Company reprint, but looking for an original)
1950 Edition Songs and Picture Album
New Edition Songs and Picture Album (1951 - looking for Beacon Banjo Company reprint and original)
New Edition Songs and Picture Album (1952 - have a reprint, looking for an original)
WSM New Edition Songs and Picture Album (1953)
New Edition Songs and Picture Album (1954)
Bluegrass Unlimited magazine:
1966: July, September, October, November, December
1967: January, March, July, August, November
1970: February
1971: August
Thanks for tuning in!

8/2/2010:
Added full scans of a second copy of the first Foggy Mountain Boys songbook (1948). There are differences between the two,
such as the sequence of pages and some missing pages. At first I thought one of the books was just missing pages, which may
still be the case, but the pages are clearly printed differently. I'm guessing they were printed at different times.
Full scans of Foggy Mountain Boys Number Two Edition of Radio Favorites.
A 1980-ish Jim & Jesse songbook signed by the bad added to the J&J section.
Got something you think may interest me? Please shoot me an email.
Questions, comments and suggestions are encouraged.
Thanks.
-Tom

I attended the Bill Monroe Centennial Celebration in Owensboro.
It was my first trip to Owensboro, and also made my first visit to Rosine.
